Pyralis, choreographed in 1984, is one of the quartet of dances entitled Four Wend Ways exploring the elements earth, fire, air and water. Pyralis explores the element of fire. Les Gilbert created a dramatic sound score of roaring bushfires and what might be harsh metallic cracks if buckling roof iron. The high energy dancing is exacting in its rhythmic structure as the dancers slap their hands on the floor and against their bodies to give the effect of fire crackling.
