Gideon Obarzanek studied at the Australian Ballet School and graduated in 1987, joining the Queensland Ballet and then the Sydney Dance Company. Gideon has choreographed for the Australian Ballet, the West Australia Ballet, Sydney Dance Company, The Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel and the Nederlands Dans Theater 1 & 2.
In 1995 Gideon founded Chunky Move and the company made its debut at the 1995 Melbourne International Festival with a double bill, Fast Idol by Gideon and Spectre in the Covert Memory by Garry Stewart. Gideon continues to create work for the Nederlands Dance Theatre and his company, Chunky Move, has performed nationally and internationally at the Bogota Latin American Theatre Festival and at the The Benois de la Danse International Ballet Prize 1998 charity gala concert in Moscow. He wrote and co-directed a production titled Wet, a one hour tele-feature for ABC TV. Gideon choreographed While You're Down There for Tasdance in 1998 as part of the Vital Expression season.
