Stephen Leek 1985

A graduate of the Canberra School of Music in 1983, Stephen majored in both Composition with Larry Sitsky, and Cello Performance with Nelson Cooke. As a performer he has attended youth music festivals in Europe and Japan and more locally has been featured in both solo and ensemble recitals. He has been a member of the Australian Youth Orchestra, the Canberra Orchestra and the Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra. As a composer, his broad spectrum of work includes music for theatre and dance, the concert platform and for commercial use. He has received National awards for both Composition and Performance. Stephen was invited to attend the 1984 Australia/New Zealand Dance course for Professional Choreographers and Composers and also the ABC Young Composers Workshop in May 1985.

He was appointed as Composer/Musician with Tasdance in September 1984 and in the following two years composed more than 20 new scores in collaboration with Australian and International Choreographers whilst enjoying commissions from individuals and organisations throughout Australia. As part of the company's Dance in Education Program, Stephen created new music for all the dance workshops and also conducted composition workshops in Primary and Secondary schools.
