Born in Sydney, Kathy began her dance studies at the age of ten under the direction of Beverley Rowles in Wollongong. She graduated from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 1992 with a Diploma in Performing Arts, Dance.
Her exposure to contemporary dance at the Academy led her to pursue a career within this genre. In addition, her studies provided her with the opportunity to work with a number of professional dance companies in Perth including Sharesight Dance Ensemble, Chrissie Parrott Dance Collective and DyXteria.
Tasdance was Kathy's first professional appointment, joining the company for a year after a short period studying under Russell Dumas, Artistic Director of Dance Exchange in Sydney. While at Tasdance she choreographed Letting the Mood take You.
