Les Gilbert

Biography

Les Gilbert is a Melbourne born composer/sound sculptor who studied at Latrobe University and the Victorian College of the Arts. Much of his compositional work crosses into the area of sound sculpture using recordings he has made of natural environments. He has worked in a number of different media and is currently engaged in creating large scale sculptures and multimedia installations for museums, zoos and National Parks in Australia, the USA, Italy, London and in an aquarium in Osaka, Japan. His works also include projects for a Technology Centre in Silicon Valley, USA, a museum/aquarium in Genoa, Italy celebrating Columbus' voyages of discovery and an exhibition of the Sichuan province of China.

He has composed the scores for Forcefield, Silken Tent and Pyralis for Tasdance, all three works were choreographed by Nanette Hassall.
