Fiona began studies in modern dance with Margaret Chapple at the Bodenweiser Dance Centre in Sydney. She later studied at the Australian Choreocentre, Sydney under the direction of Gerard Sibbritt and at the Centre for the Performing Arts in Adelaide. She performed with the Dance Group, Adelaide, directed by Jacqui Carroll at the Sydney Festival 1980-81. Prior to joining the Tasmanian Dance Company in June 1981, Fiona was a member of One Extra Dance Theatre in Sydney. In January 1982 she attended the International Dance Course for Choreographers and Composers in New Zealand, one of 16 dancers selected to represent Australia.
