Appointed Artistic Director of Tasdance in October 2015, Felicity Bott has worked in professional contemporary dance since 1989 as company dancer, independent artist, commissioned choreographer, Artistic Director and CEO. She has nearly 25 years in interdisciplinary practice with particular focus on performance architecture and installation, her practice consistently exploring new performance forms and settings and informed by a passionate commitment to the commissioning of original music and sound for all major works and projects. Felicity also has long-standing practice in community settings as a freelance choreographer and facilitator; as a dance educator of students of all ages and abilities ranging from pre-school age through to tertiary students majoring in dance, inclusive dance and disability; and as an arts/dance advocate and speaker in public forums.
Following four years at the helm of STEPS Youth Dance Company 2000–2003, Felicity was the Artistic Director of Buzz Dance Theatre from late 2003 to mid 2009. Several national nominations and awards during this period included 6 Helpmann award nominations and an Australian Dance Award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance Education evidence her art and advocacy. Felicity is a 2007/8 Churchill Fellow and in 2009 was the recipient of the Department of Culture and the Arts’ Creative Development Fellowship in Western Australia. 2013 - 2015, Felicity was appointed to the role of Director of Ausdance WA, a peak body providing leadership, support and advocacy for all forms of dance in Western Australia. In January 2015, Felicity was selected for the Australia Council for the Arts’ Emerging Leaders Development Program in Sydney. She is profiled in both editions of Rachel Power’s Creativity & Motherhood: The Divided Heart, a series of interviews with successful female artist-mothers (2008 & 2015).
In 2016 Felicity has created new work for Tasdance for Dark Mofo, commissioned works from Australian choreographers Gabrielle Nankivell and Liesel Zink and has launched forays unto new festival and performance settings garnering social and community engagement for the company. 2017 will see the company embark on a new international partnership, large scale environmental art collaboration with MONA and UTAS, increased intra-state touring, an expanded national residency programme and new works for festivals, both large and boutique.
Felicity also has a degree in English and Anthropology from the University of WA and was accepted into the Juris Doctor Post-Graduate Law Degree at UWA in 2014 (deferred).
