Paul Batey

After two year dance training in Melbourne, Paul was accepted into the Victorian College of the Arts. He graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts in dance. In 1986 he performed with Dance Works in the Spoleto Festival and the following year performed in another Festival production Dance, Dance, Dance. Paul also danced in the Victorian State Opera production of Eugene Onegin in 1987.

Paul worked with the Western Australian based dance-in-education company 2 Dance Plus in 1988, performing, choreographing and teaching dance, before coming to spend the year with Tasdance in 1989. Paul returned to Melbourne and worked with Dance Works for the next eighteen months. In 1992, Paul toured regional Victoria with a Graffiti Dance Theatre production Slippery When Wet, and spent the latter part of the year performing Trespasses with Tasdance.

Paul is involved in many aspects of theatre, and has choreographed for several theatre works including I Voci, a choral group and King Lear for Crispin Theatre Company, a Melbourne based company. After completing his contract with Tasdance, Paul took up an appointment as a singer with the Victorian State Opera Chorus.
