James Batchelor


James Batchelor is a performer and choreographer based in Canberra and Melbourne.
 As a performer he has worked with choreographers such as Prue Lang (Spaceproject), Antony Hamilton (Black Project 2), Stephanie Lake (Aorta, Chunky Move) and Sue Healey (Inevitable Scenarios). He completed a Bachelor of Dance at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2012 and received the VCA Graduate Mentors Scholarship, Dr Phillip Law
 Travel Scholarship and Lionel Gell Scholarship. Batchelor’s choreographic work includes
 the performance installation ISLAND, which was developed
 as part of his Dancehouse Housemate Residency in 
2014. He was also one of the commissioned artists for the inaugural Keir Choreographic Award in Melbourne. He is currently developing a new 
work METASYSTEMS which is touring Australia and Europe 
in 2015 and is about to undertake major residencies 
in Thailand and Italy. Batchelor also has a strong involvement with Canberra’s youth dance ensemble Quantum Leap and has been commissioned to choreograph for the company on two occasions.
